Lesson 2 - What to Eat/Drink

Fuel Up

In order to run you need to fuel your body!

Lesson 1

WATER!!!!

There is no getting around it. Running outdoors in the summer you will sweat a lot, especially if your in a hot and humid state like me in Florida, regardless you need to replenish your body's resources of water. If you don't you will most likely cramp up and then not feel good about your run. Running should be a positive mind clearing journey of determination not a dragging  on of pain.

Do what you want, what you want with my body - Lady Gaga

The second most important thing is to listen to what your body is telling you to do. Make sure if its telling you your hungry before your run, eat... If you eat, make sure you wait to digest or you won't feel so hot after the first mile or so. If you feel better running on a banana or water based stomach at 4 am do it. Listen to your intern clock and your body to make the best decisions for you. Do not feel bad if you have to stop mid mile or take it up to a longer minute mile. You are out there doing your thing and the only person who is in charge is you.

  1. I prefer to run on an empty stomach in the mornings with just some water in me to keep me going. In the afternoon I prefer to wait at least 3-4 hours after my lunch to run when I get home from work!

  2. I like to eat a nice hearty breakfast before a runner get myself warmed up for an hour of stretching and then hop on to it!

  3. I like to think of food a fuel. It powers the systems I need for endurance (so get this girl some complex carbs) and it provides the stability to my blood sugar I need. I indoor cycle more than I run, but regardless of what activity I'm doing or teaching, I recommend even a little snack goes a long way in fueling your system. And water, water, water!

  4. Great lesson! Water is definitely key for me! I am in a habit of running with a water bottle too but I rarely drink while I run. I think I just get nervous not having it if I need it.
